Sorry for the late reply. The problem definately is happening due to some software conflict. Two more things you can try:
First go to the HP Drivers and Software page and download the listed updates in Important Action Needed manually. Once the updates are installed then uninstall and reinstall HPSA and check.
Here is the link to download the updates for your notebook:
Software & Driver Downloads - HP Pavilion dv7-6154nr Entertainment Notebook PC
Now, if that also doesnt fix the issue then a complete recovery has to be performed using the Recovery disks that you can get by calling HP technical Support.
Let me know what happens after trying the first option.

As I stated previously, I can not manually download and install many of the recommended or suggested updates. I attempted HP Software Framework and HP Protectsmart Hard Drive Protection and received the following error even though I downloaded the drivers from the page link you provided.
What now?

Alright...I really appreciate your patience and sorry for not being able to get it fixed for you till now. .
I have been researching about this problem.....Give me two-three days more and i'll make sure i give my best to get the issue fixed for you.
In the mean time if you can check two more things for me...
- Are windows updates getting installed? if yes then make sure all updates are completed. If not what is the error message you get..look for the error that starts with 0x0000....
- Do you have the recovery disks? If not then you can call tech support and have them ship it out.
They are open 24/7.

Hi,
Run the sfc scan once though it'll work better if ran using the recovery disks but running it without disks might also help..Here is the link that will show you how to run the System file Checker...
Or,
How to Repair Windows 7 System Files with System File Checker

Updates are being installed without issue from Windows Update. Ran FSC as instructed and received message that there is no problem with file integrity. I do not have the recovery disks but I don't see what using them will solve. I'm having no issues other than what I've described already with Support Assistant and being able to install updated HP software and utilities. If I have to restore the computer to Factory State with Recovery Disk and lose all installed programs and customizations it's hardly worth the time and effort to do that and then have to reinstall 6 months worth of programs and updates.

Hi,
Yes, i understand what you are saying. It can be frustrating to to reinstall everything...but there is a difference running from the partiton(or user created disk) and running from the replacement disks. It fixes partition related issues and also recreates and writes everything from the disk which will fix any sort of file issues in the partition.
The strange thing is that your notebook is installing everything correctly-All windows updates are up-to date, recovery from partition also went smooth, sfc scans found no error, BIOS update completed perfectly, hard drive is also fine except that it doesnt update any of the HP softwares using HP Support Assitant or even if you try to install them manually. This makes me feel there could be a partition issue.
Anyway lets try one more thing.Perform a clean boot first. >msconfig>startup tab>Click disable all>Click services>check the box next to Hide all microsoft services>Then select disable all>Click Apply>Ok and restart.
Go to drivers and support page and try installing only these two:
Restart and try downloading manually the drivers. If same error then i would again recommend to get the DVDs-if not reinstall we'll try to extract files from it..

OK, I'm not sure I understand the sequence of what you want me to do. Let me make sure I'm clear.
First perform the clean boot.
Then immediately after the clean boot I go to the drivers and support page and download and install the Driver(chipset) and Essential System Updates and install them
Then restart again and download the other drivers and software that Support Assistant says needs upgraded. Is this correct?
