After my HD failed, I used the System Recovery DVD that I purchased from HP. The software goes through all of the recovery and original content reinstall. It asks if I have a supplemental disk (which I don't), then the DVD ejects and I click Cancel to finish. It says RECOVERY COMPLETE and I click Finish to restart the computer. The computer restarts with the blinking cursor at the upper left corner of the Black Screen and does nothing else. Is there something that I am doing wrong? Any help would be much appreciated!

Did you replace the hard drive or is this the original?

Even though it is new I would run the HP diags on the new drive. also it's quite possible the recovery DVD is defective.

Have you try using other OS installer?
Let us know about your new harddisk, the info of brand and size would be useful.

The problem is resolved and here is the critique:
- My Pavillion dv 9000 laptop has two 120GB hard drives. When I used the recovery disk (the DVD Recovery Disk that I purchased from HP) to re-install the current Vista OS and software, it loaded the software onto the 2nd drive. For whatever reason, the BIOS did not see this drive and the laptop would not boot.
- Thanks to the assistance from the IT Dept where I work, they eventually removed the 2nd hard drive. The recovery disk was re-inserted and the OS and other software was loaded onto the now single drive.
- Everything went fine and after the laptop was loaded and ready, I re-inserted the 2nd hard drive. The BIOS recognized it, although I had to re-format it because the OS from the recovery disk was still on it.
- My laptop is back to normal! Thanks to Andrew from our IT Department!
