Quick Launch Button Uninstall (or fix)

[ Edited ]

HP Pavilion dv4 - 1365dx

s/n:  [text removed for privacy]

p/n:  NM037UA#ABA

OS:  Windows 7 Home Prem.  x64  -  upgraded from Vista Home Prem. x64 via HP Upgrade

Details: Ok.... So I am about to pull my hair out on this one.  I have done everything HP has told me to do (re-install HP QLB soft/drivers, update BIOS, update IDT Audio) and even tried remedies I read on the internet (take out the battery with the power cable in, ect.).  My mute button is stuck red.  Even system restore will only remedy it for a day at most. Basically, great laptop but I can't wait until that Network Button is stuck red.   That's why I am asking.... does anyone know how I can completely circumvent QLB and all its awesome glory?  Also, I can use my audio jacks but like I said, if the Mute Button controls the speakers... what if that Network Button ever stays red?

Summary:  I need help circumventing QLB completely or at least how I can fix it.  Thanks!

Re: Quick Launch Button Uninstall (or fix)

Before your upgrade to W7, were the Quick Launch buttons working normally ?

From what I have read it sound like you have already tried this, but reinstall your IDT audio driver. Just humor me.

This one is for Vista and if that one doesn't work try this one.

If it says that any of them already exist say "yes to replace all" After reinstall do a restart of course.

Also, your net work button is working, but you are worried that it will start acting as well, correct ?

So the only problem right now is just with the mute button ?

If none of the above work we will try a more drastic fix.

Re: Quick Launch Button Uninstall (or fix)

Fixed.  I had already downloaded the 2nd Link and it didn't work for me but the 1st Link did.  Also, my concern for other buttons still lingers... what do I do if the Network Button one day stays orange?  I know it is a hypothetical and most likely not going to happen but hey... computers are a surprise sometimes.  Is there another fix I can download if that ever happens or is there some type of way to go through Win7?   Anyways thanks for the easy fix to this Mute Button problem!

Re: Quick Launch Button Uninstall (or fix)

The mute button is always the one that gives this specific problem. I have never had a problem with the WIFI button, nor has any one reported having problems.  (really tempting Murphy's law here)

When I installed my OEM copy of W7 on my dv8 the WiFi button worked correctly with just Windows 7 installed. That means that the proper workings of that button does not depend on any HP drivers or software, which is a good thing. That also means that it is less likely to fail.

However there is a driver that is in the "HP Wireless Assistant" software that has to be installed. That also affects the Bluetooth radio and maybe the WiFi button. If you ever do a clean install you must install the wireless assistant for the driver and then you can uninstall it if you want as the driver remains behind.

If the WiFi button is working, then don't worry about.

Re: Quick Launch Button Uninstall (or fix)

unfortunately, the problem I have is exactly with a wi-fi button, so the fix is crucially important.  however, HP failed to fix that issue for me
