Recovery discs

[ Edited ]

I have had difficulty with the sound on my Pavilion notbook for a few months. I have no sound on any website whether I use Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox. This is not an uncommon problem with various Microsoft OSs. I recently began having difficulty with my notebook's touchpad dropping it's driver while am using it. I get an error stating the driver stopped working. So, I got an idea. why not do a recovery.Well, my system could no locate the recovery, or it is corrupted, on the hard drive. So, I ordered a recovery disc. What the heck. A clean install of everything would be good. I ordered the discs and paid for a rush shipment. I loaded the discs which start with a fresh format and then reinstall the original content. Twelve of thirteen percent into the reinstalling the original content I get "THE BLUE SCREEN OF DEATH'. So lets try it again...   and again...  and again. Same thing. OK, I just paid for a recovery disc that won't work. Can HP support help me out. NO. Apparently ther is no warranty on the discs that won't load. They want me to pay $99 for a new warranty on my lap top. So, I have to dump the discs that I paid for and pay for a warranty? I never called with the first warranty. I just want the discs to work. It is obviously not a hardware problem. It is software related (ie. drivers or registry file). Yes, I was a computer hardware technician in the military.

Well, I have been getting the emails from HP every week telling about great sales on their products. I was looking at a great HP Elite system. I just got a fat tax return and its burning a hole in my pocket. Do you think HP won my loyalty with the discs? Hmmm, wonder what Dell is offering or maybe I'll just go back to building my own systems.

Re: Recovery discs

BTW, I should also mention that all of the hardware diagnostics passed and no data in the error logs!

Re: Recovery discs

If I were you I would check hdd from the BIOS or try to exchange it for a new one, basically it is more often to be something wrong with hdd after a year or so than with the cd/dvd what you have received
