System Recovery

I have a HP Pavilion G-S Notebook with Windows 7 home premium. I tried to do a System Recovier to get it back to the original factory settings. I’ve done it before with this same computer and it worked with no problems. Today when I went to bring it up the box said, “System Recovery Disabled. Please use recovery media to recover your system.” I can’t figure out why it’s been disabled. But I did go to the box where I could make the recovery media. That seemed to work as it took four DVDs. After the disks were burned a message popped up that said the media was made successfully. My BIOS is set to boot from the CD drive if there is a bootable disk in it. So I put in disk No. 1 and restarted my computer. But the disk is apparently not bootable as it simply booted into Windows 7. I then opened disk No.1 to see if I could run it from there, but there seems to be no executable file. I even tried disk No. 4, but nothing works. There is one thing that I should add: I created a new volume on the disk yesterday. I wouldn't think that the new volume being there is what cause the problem.  But I'm not sure.  Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks ~~Frank~~

Re: System Recovery

Hi,

Creating the new volume could have disrupted the link of the OS image for the recovery manager.

You can order a set of recovery DVD from HP from the below link and perform recovery as well.

Re: System Recovery

I thank you for your quick response. But after taking a closer look, I think the problem may be different that what I described. As I mentioned above, I did make a set of recovery disks, but I thought that there was a problem with the disks themselves as they did not seem to be bootable. I also mentioned the fact that  the boot order in my BIOS looked at the CD ROM drive first. I could have been wrong. Just a few minutes ago, I put a disk in the CD drive that I know is bootable as I just used it yesterday and it booted upon startup. Right now it will not boot. What I don’t understand is that I did not change the setting in the BIOS—at least I don’t think I did. But for some reason it will not boot a CD at startup. I’m going to take a closer look at the BIOS. There must be a problem there. Can you give me a link where I can update the BIOS. Maybe that would help.

Re: System Recovery

For this notebook you will be able to update the BIOS only if you are able to boot to windows.

I would recomend you to update the BIOS only when you are with a HP tech on a call.

However you can first put the BIOS to defaults and have it checked.

First boot in default is CD drive.

Re: System Recovery

I did set the BIOS to defaults and it still will not boot. However, I believe that the problem is with the hardware--that is the CD ROM drive itself. There are other reasons I believe that it is the hardware. I bought it at Staples and I believe that it may still be under warranty as I bought it October of 2011. Staples in our area has always treated me well. I will stop by and talk to them to see if it is really the drive. I thank you for your input.

Re: System Recovery

Just to let you know that I have everything working fine. It was my mistake. I told you that I had the BIOS set right, but I was wrong.  I had a person at Staples check it for me.
Thank you for your feedback.

Re: System Recovery

When I looked at the BIOS, I thought that CD ROM drive was looked at first. But I didn’t realize that it was looking at the external CD drive and not the internal.

Re: System Recovery

Hi,

First with disc in the optical drive tap F9 key when u power on the notebook.

This will give u a option to select the boot device.
