Unable to get Vista Clock to synch with RTC (Battery good, RTC always displays correct time in BIOS)

[ Edited ]

I have had this issue with my dv9335nr since day one and it is now really annoying me that I cannot get it to work. I have backed up and restored the OS using recovery once to no avail and since then, have used my own OS disk to load Vista Home Premium w/SP1 and still not working.

What is happening:

  • The clock does not advance time - will not advance as days go by therefore appeearing to be losing time.
  • Cannot perform internet time synch - errors out, also got some feedback about "stratum" once

any ideas before Ebay? :smileysad:

Hi,

Note:

Below solution may solve this problem only if RTC battery isn't exhausted.

Download and run Atomic Clock Sync 3.0

Click on ' Repair Service ' tab.

Click on buttons there in following order:

  • Stop Service
  • Unregister
  • Register
  • Start Service
  • Sync Time

Your problem should be solved.

I downloaded and ran it. At the very last step, I receive this:

Sending resync command to local computer
The computer did not resync because no time data was available.

Check this Microsoft article about problem with this error. It's written for other systems, but Microsoft supporters are giving it as solution for Vista too.

If again You problem will not be solved then check below guide:

Re: Unable to get Vista Clock to synch with RTC (Battery good, RTC always displays correct time in B

My current key value at "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\w32time\TimeProviders\NtpClient" is already 604800 (DEC) and as far as the microsoft article - it does not apply as forcing "w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual" does NOT result in a successful update.

What ever happened to easy issues??

I'm not sure that You used this command correctly.

w32tm /config /syncfromflags:manual /manualpeerlist:PeerList

where PeerList is a comma-separated list of Domain Name System (DNS) names or Internet protocol (IP) addresses of the desired time sources. Full list of DNS names and IP adrdesses You may find here.

If this will not work remember to check second guide:

Dealing With Windows Vista Time Sync Problems

I found very good artcle on Micorosft Technet about Windows Vista Time Service. It's here. There are informations about it and even informations about issues with it.
