Windows Not Loading - Unable to Start Laptop

Hi - My Mum's HP Compaq 6510b will not load windows.

As soon as I switch the machine on, I get System32 Error displayed.

I have tried Booting from the BIOS - with some borrowed XP disks (these were not original disks). Windows still would not load and and took me to the System32 Error.

She has made no 'Recovery Disks' - is there anyway I can get Windows back.

There is no data on the hard drive that needs to be recovered - she has only had the machine (reconditioned) a couple of months.

So, any suggestions would be great.

Many Thanks

Francis

Re: Windows Not Loading - Unable to Start Laptop

If the notebook still has the OEM windows sticker and the key is legible then you are in luck.

Is that the case? Let me know if it is and I will advise you on how to proceed from there.

Best regards,
erico

Re: Windows Not Loading - Unable to Start Laptop

Hi

The sticker has been taken off the back of the laptop - you can see remains of where it has been.

I asked my Mum if she tore it off, and she says 'No'.

The laptop was bought a couple of months ago reconditioned (she thinks off Amazon).

I have a couple of old XP laptops - that are redundant (one is totally broken). These do have stickers on the back - are they allowed to be used?.

Sorry - I don't understand the licensing on Windows.

Thanks

Francis

The normal method is to use the license on the HP laptop. Since you no longerhave  the license it came with, then you will have to acquire and install a different licensed copy to the notebook's hard disk.

Have you tried booting the notebook up in Safe Mode

Press the power button and immediately start tapping the F8 key.

If you can get into safe mode then try 'Boot Using Last Known Good Configuration'..

It was malware that caused your problem.

You should be using at least Microsoft Security Essenials to prevent that from happening while online.

Best regards,
erico

Re: Windows Not Loading - Unable to Start Laptop

Hi

The laptop will not boot into Safe Mode.

Is my only option to buy a new set of Windows XP?

Can I get Recovery Disks from HP or download something - to try first?

I just have this gut feeling that if I buy a new set of XP Software - I will still end up with the Error:

\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM

Thankyou
