problem after installing updates, cannot resore system, vista fails to start abd recover

After installation of unknown update (I have it set as automatic so I'm not sure what was that - I know that was stupid) or it can be that I also catched a virus or something in my notebook I restarted it and now it fails to start and restor to an earlier point.

Vista is automatically trying to fix the problem but every time failed. It’s showing the following error details

    Right now I can only access mynote book in command mode
    So far it looks like I have two options: format the disk or go back to fabric settings, and since I have a lot of data I don't want to do that.

I think the hard drive is ok because I can still see the files in the command mode.   

Is there a way to make it working again?
    
What I can do? Please help me to solve this problem.

Did you try to boot up using the safe mode boot?

First try press F8 at boot and safe mode. If it will not work, try remove one memory module if you have 2 of them and boot up...

I did some search and the best option is to repair Vista by this..
