start menu lost after malware attack

Here's my problem:  I had a malware attack thia AM and it wiped out everything from the start menu.  Currently running mcCaffee to resolve the malware issue.  What do I need to do to recover windows components? (cannot go to a restore point as it was never turned on)

If your OS was that badly damaged from a malware attack probably the best option is to do a complete System Recovery.
