So basically, I've tested the audio quality on Windows 8 and it was exceptionally good, rich bass..........loud clear sound. However, ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 I've noticed that on the speakers the audio quality is very very poor, the Subwoofer is not working, or so it seems that way, and there is no enhancement tab in the audio properties. I also did notice that for some reason my audio is being limited by the driver or some other software (possibly beastsaudio) as seen in the image below:
While in reality it should be something similar to this. Note this is when the headphones have been plugged in:
Please if someone can help me fix these problems I'll be much obliged. Thank You in advance!

Hi Deathshead747,
Welcome to the HP Forums!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum, I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
Thank you for your inquiry, I will try my best to help.
I understand that after updating to Windows 8.1, your sound quality is not as good as it was, before the update. Here is a link to Overview of Switchable Graphics or Dual GPUs. You have an Intel and Amd system. Switchable Graphics on Notebooks Configured with Intel and ATI GPUs. Here is a link for the Beats Audio Console (Windows 😎.
Sometimes installing the AMD driver can remove the ability to configure switchable graphics. I suggest you roll back the driver on it, then update everything again. The previous documents should assist you with this.

Hi Deathshead747,
I understand that your sound quality has diminished since upgrading to Windows 8.1.
Here is a link to No Sound from Speakers (Windows 😎 that should help you troubleshoot. I know it states for no sound, but the steps will be the same. Here is a link to the HP ENVY dv6-7300ex Notebook PC Drivers., please click on driver-audio to download the latest driver for Windows 8.1 and install . Go to Device Manager and uninstall the audio device , now select scan for hardware changes, this should install the new driver.
You can also run the HP Support Assistant to aid with resolving issues and looking for updates. Your system does come with Beats Audio. Here is a link to Beats Audio Console (Windows 😎 to help you configure it for the best listening experience.
You have a built in troubleshooter in Windows 8 and 8.1.
Press the windows key + C to open charms
Type troubleshoot sound in the search bar and press enter
Follow the on screen prompts. I hope this helps.

HI Deathshead747.
I hope you had a great weekend.
You have the latest drives. and you have tweaked the setting,s but no change. With Windows 8.1 this is not a unique situation, as there is numerous post on sound and windows 8.1. You may have to wait for a patch. The only other suggestion is to call HP Technical Support, they can remotely log onto your system, and they may be able to see something. Please call our technical support at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region, please click the link below to get the support number for your region. HP Technical Support Sitemap
