No Sound on HP Pavilion dv6000

Hello,

Suddenly I no longer have sound on my laptop.  I am running Windows XP, SP3.  I have checked the device manager and the driver is signed by Microsoft and says it is working ok. It is a Conexant High Definition Audio.  Mute is NOT checked.  I'm at a loss so any advice is appreciated.

Thanks

Re: No Sound on HP Pavilion dv6000

Hi,

Install MS UAA for XP SP3 first here

Conexant SmartAudio 221 here

How to install:

Unzip to a folder.run installer.

if it errors use Device Manager.
From Device Manager, right click "Audio Device on HD",choose Update driver,
No to connect, Install from a list or specific location,

Select Don't Search, I will choose the driver to install,
For the Hardware Type select 'Show All Devices'
Remove the check from "Show Compatible Hardware" and click on "Have Disk".
Next...browse to the unzipped folder and choose the "WiSVHe5.inf".
Ignore XP when it complains.
Reboot.

OR

This driver here.

Intructions how to install it in XP.

  1. Download and run 6ea107ww.exe to extract the drivers and application.
  2. Open Device manager and expand the Sound, video and game controllers section.
  3. Right click on Either the High Definition Audio Device if you have the generic Microsoft drivers, or the Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221 if you have older Conexant drivers and choose "Update Driver Software..."
  4. Click Browse my computer for driver software, then click "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
  5. Click "Have Disk..." then Browse to the folder where the drivers were extracted, by default this is C:\DRIVERS\WIN\AUDIO\XP32 for 32-bit XP. Click OK.
  6. Select one of the "Conexant High Definition SmartAudio 221" models in the list, there will be multiple identical entries. I don't think it matters which you choose.
  7. Click Next, and you're done.

Also this thread may be interesting to You.

Daniel,

I downloaded and installed MS UAA for XP SP3 successfully.  I have XP and could not locate 6ea107ww.exe.  Can you provide link please so I can download and continue with the instructions for installing in XP.

Thanks

Re: No Sound on HP Pavilion dv6000

Thanks Daniel!  The instructions were perfect; I installed the driver and then the speaker icon on the Quickplay menu changed from blue to amber.  It was almost as if the mute all opion was checked.  I confirmed that the mute all was not checked but my laptop didnt like the driver.  I tried at least three of the drivers listed with the same results.  I pointed back to original driver and the amber light went away.

Still no sound though!

Re: No Sound on HP Pavilion dv6000

Thanks for the responses.  It appears that the on-board speaker was busted.  To resolve, I bought a set of usb travel speakers for $20.00 and I now have sound again.  Much cheaper than replacing the motherboard!
