Problem with HP Recovery Manager

Hei.

HP Compaq Presario  CQ60-405EO Notebook

Product no.: VG614EA#UUW

Windows Vista Home Basic 32-bits

A few days ago, my computer broke down. I ran system restore through the HP-program without disc. During the process I used the Recovery Manager to backup files to floppy. (Couldnt boot windows, so was my only option).

Backup ran through the night, and I'd chosen to backup both photos, videos, music, documents and programs.

Backup was finished "successfully" the next morning, and I continued system restore.

What I didnt know though, was that the only way to get my files back was to run restore through Recovery Manager. I did this, and the only files in the recovery folder created on my desktop are programfiles and such.  Where are my photos? I read about the Recovery Manager on HP's websites, even watched a viedo, and it seems like my program is missing some of the options. In the video, you can "manage backups" and open folders and everything. The only thing I can do with my program is to perform system recovery, system restore, re-installation of software and hardware-drivers and things like that. But I DID choose to backup "photos, videos, documents" and so on, so where are they? -.- Really frustrating. Hopie you can help.

I also got a BlueScreen error today, I ran chkdsk /f on startup and it works fine now. But the first time I rebooted I got a message saying it couldnt start because of a resent change in the system...Which is a bit ironic i think.. Anyway, I rebooted again, and it works fine now.

Re: Problem with HP Recovery Manager

Not much help, as we are in the same boat.

I backed up all our files to DVDs, and trying to get them off now is a real headache.

I have spoken to customer support - on the phone and online - and they both tell me I need to take it to a local back up business and get them to recover them as "we do not support on how to recover files from the backup. You need to contact any local backup centre for the same."

I was then told "Once the files are backed up, you could copy back the files from the destination to the required location." - but since they are formatted by using the recovery manager - this also doesn't work.

Just now 'However, there is no option on how to recover the backup files in Windows 7.'

So basically... Im/we're screwed!

Re: Problem with HP Recovery Manager

you need to go to a local pc repairist who maybe able to recover your lost photos etc..

its a slim chance but sometimes even after a recovery you can get these things back

dont think it will be cheap though.

Re: Problem with HP Recovery Manager

Finally managed to fix it :smileyhappy: Pure luck though; I managed to make the HP Recovery Manager work in a different way. I'm not quite sure how...

Theleepc: The problem mentioned above with the DVD sounds worse than my own problem.  Which program did you use? Is there a way you can contact the people behind the program? :smileysurprised: I hope it works out for you!

Re: Problem with HP Recovery Manager

Yeah, ours is all sorted. Turns out you need to use the recovery manager that burns to the DVD during back up. When I looked at the files on the disc I missed this at first.

Not sure why HP tech support couldn't tell me this though...
