Re-installing Windows-7 on Pavilion g6

Something went terribly wrong.

I had the necessity of installing Ubuntu Linux as dual-boot in my new Pavilion g6.

I really cannot say what went wrong but the whole hard-drive got reformatted and Windows-7 disappeared *completely*.

Fortunately, before attempting the Ubuntu installation I saved the image of Windows-7 on DVDs as well as the System Repair.

But now I really don't know how to re-install Windows-7 from the DVDs.

I would appreciate some help and/or link to a description of the procedure for re-installing Windows-7.

Looking fwd...

Thank You.

Re: Re-installing Windows-7 on Pavilion g6

Hi,

Did you create the Windows 7 DVDs using the Recovery Media Creator application ( Recovery Discs ) or do the DVDs contain a Disk Image created from the Backup and Restore facility?

Regards,

Hi! Thanks for responding...

I do not know what you mean (as I do not know much about Microsoft OS), but I created the image DVD using the tools available in Windows-7, as soon as I purchased the laptop and turned it on 1st time (Wednesday).

It's a tool in the hard-drive maintenance section of Windows-7. Unfortunatley, not having access to Windows-7 I cannot say exactly where/what the tool was.

I believe it was the 2nd you mention as I did not have any Media stuff there yet.

Hi,

How many DVDs do you have - this will give me an idea if you have definetely created a Disk Image?

Do you need to keep the Ubuntu installation?

Re: Re-installing Windows-7 on Pavilion g6

[ Edited ]

7 DVDs for the Windows-7 image, 1 DVD for System Repair. Here below is the content of one DVD of the 7.

As I write, I was able to reboot the laptop with the System Repair disk.

Since the HD has no partitions realated to Windows-7 to recover from, I select "Restore your computer using a system image that you created earlier". Then I insert the 1st disk image in the DVD drive.

It happens that the tool cannot find the disk image. It scans the system seeking that drive. Then it requires to install the drivers for the storage element where the disk image is held (which is the same DVD drive where I booted from).

Re: Re-installing Windows-7 on Pavilion g6

Hi,

Ok, here is a work around - but back-up any files from your Ubuntu installation first.

If you have ( or can borrow ) a retail Windows 7 installation disc that is exactly the same version as your OEM installation - ie if your notebook came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit this is the exact retail version you would need.

If you don't have access to a retail disc, you can create an installation disc yourself - just download the correct Disc Image from the link below and use an application such as ImgBurn to burn the ISO correctly to a blank DVD.

http://www.mydigitallife.info/download-windows-7-iso-official-32-bit-and-64-bit-direct-download-link...

Use the disc to perform the installation, enter the Windows activation key found on the underside of your notebook when requested and when the installation has completed, use the 'Phone Method' detailed in the link below to activate the OS - this method supported by Microsoft and is popular with people who just want a clean installation of Windows 7 without the additional software load normally bundled with OEM installations.

Any additional drivers you may need can be found starting Here.

Re: Re-installing Windows-7 on Pavilion g6

Thanks a lot.

Yet, I keep this as last option.

I still want to understand how the System Recovery and the images I saved on dvd can be used to recreate the original setup.

I'm going to investigate further.

Thanks again.
