Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me.
I have a 1tb Seagate external hard drive that I have had for a little while and it used to work fine, but my laptop is now not recognizing it when I plug it in. It has a usb and it has its own plug for power. I have not used it in a little while and wanted to transfer some files over (pictures, movies etc) and now my laptop is not recognizing it. I am not a laptop/ computer whiz so any help would be much appreciated.

Try to connect it to other computers and see if it is recognised.
Also connect it to your laptop, then open Disk Management. Post the screenshot of it here.

Also please see if you're seeing Seagate hard drive in Device Manager after connecting.

My Solution:-
Uninstall Hard Drive Driver to Solve External Hard Drive Undetectable Error
- On your PC, click Start. In search bar type devmgmt.msc and hit Enter.
- Device Manager will get open. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers and check if any device is showing as unrecognized.
- If it shows unrecognized, then delete or uninstall the drive by going to the driver tab and then check whether external hard drive display up in My Computer or not.
- If it doesn’t display up, then restart or reboot your PC. If external hard drive shows but later it get disappeared, then open Disk Management and change the name of your external hard drive only.
This will solve the problem.
