Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I am trying to upgrade to WIndows 10, but can't because the D drive is full. I tried to right click on the drive in Disk Management but only get a help menu (that does not help).  I clicked show hidden files, but the files in D are still hidden.

Basically -- you don't!  If you mess around with the Recovery partition in any way, you will "break" it and that will prevent you from then doing any HP Recovery function.

My guess is that you are trying to do the Win10 Upgrade through Windows Update -- which is the most error-prone and unreliable way to do it.

Instead, you need to download and create install media from this link, insert that media while Win8.1 is running, and see if it then allows you to do the Upgrade: Installing Windows 10 using the media creation tool - Windows Help
