I have this computer - HP ENVY x2 CTO 11t-g000
Model #: C7N83AV
Serial #: [personal information removed]
Running Windows 10 Home
I want to be able to dual boot this with Ubuntu. I have disabled Secure Boot, changed boot order to boot from external hard drive, but no luck, what am I missing> I am sure it has something to do with UEFI. Please help me with this. Do not give me the stock cut and paste answers - that only make me angry! Give me a solution with clear steps.
This should be a simple thing to do, it is basic computing. Oh, but this is an HP. They made it complicated.

Hi! @celtica98, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand that you need to know how to change the boot options on your laptop.
1- There is no option for legacy boot mode in the BIOS only EFI boot.
2. The problem here is the EFI boot mode is used in X64 systems, so this is particularly used by Microsoft to prevent users from installing another OS.
3. To Boot from the external peripheral use the EFI boot file "bootia32.efi" in your boot folder. You can use a software to override the boot settings : KnBoot-v2.4.
Note: HP does not recommend running dual OS. This will void the warranty and you might get limited support.
Hope to hear from you soon!
Have a great day! 🙂
