SO has a ProBook 4440S, activated the ProtectTools software and every time SO boots the computer it takes a very long time to load. It also pulls up this additional login screen (image) prior to the usual Windows 7 login screen. I have tried several things with no success, ultimately I just want this computer to boot faster and if that means disabling or completely getting rid of ProtectTools without screwing up the computer we're okay with that. We have tried:
- This Customer Advisory - It was already in Legacy Mode. Didn't do anything
- I tried the top two answers of this post, short of Uninstalling ProtectTools - the "disable Windows logon" in the Administrative Console did not work, and I did not want to try "disable hpqwmiex at startup" because hpqwmiex seems to be associated with ProtectTools when viewing the Service in Task Manager
- I'd like to look into this one more but I do not understand how to use the Event Viewer properly
- Also tried disabling Digital Persona to not start up automatically via msconfig
SO only uses the computer for movies, iTunes, and Microsoft Office, no other software is really draining this computer. I'm trying to convince SO to not chuck this laptop and blow another grand on a MacBook, so any tips that can help would be really appreciated! Thanks.
