I purchased this laptop yesterday. When I went to register my virus protection, the top number keys will not work. I do not have a "numlock" button, and it doesn't have a mouse, or side numbers, so all the fixes I've seen don't apply. However, when I'm on the internet, or sticky note, the number keys work fine. I tried to use the keyboard on screen, using the touch screen, they aren't working either. So far, I've only had this issue while entering the serial number on the virus registration.

I feel incredibly stupid. It was asking for the virus protection serial number, not the computer one. It was not a numeric field, therefore, didn't accept numbers. Once I put letters in the letter field, the number keys worked fine. I'm so sorry that you went through that answer when it was my mistake. Thank you so much for answering though!

Hey there! @vcantrell, Welcome to HP forums.
I understand some of the number keys on the keyboard are not functioning when you are registering your anti-virus software on your PC.
Don't worry I'll try to help you out.
Have you tried checking with an external keyboard?
As you mentioned you are able to use number keys while on the internet or using sticky notes.
It certainly looks to be an issue with the application try contacting the anti-virus vendor and get assistance.
Try uninstalling the anti-virus application on your PC and reinstall the software and check if you are able to enter the numbers.
Also, Please try the steps recommended below.
Turn off the computer and then restart it.
Press the Esc key repeatedly to see if a startup menu opens.
If a setup menu does not open, the integrated keyboard hardware is not working. The integrated keyboard in the notebook should be serviced or replaced. To continue using the notebook, connect a USB-wired keyboard to a USB port and restart the computer.
If a setup menu opens, use the arrow keys to navigate the menus. If these keys are working in the startup menu, but then fail when Windows loads, the problems might be related to the keyboard software.
Restart the computer.
In Device Manager, uninstall and reinstall the keyboard software:
In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
Click View and select Show Hidden Devices.
Click the arrow next to Keyboards, right-click the keyboard device name, then select Uninstall to remove the device from Windows.
Continue removing device names in the Keyboards category until all device names have been uninstalled.
Restart the notebook. Right-click Start (), select Shut down or sign out, then select Restart.
Wait for the computer to restart and open Windows.
The keyboard should now work correctly.
Refer this article to further troubleshoot keyboard issues.
I'll keep an eye out for your response.
I hope you have a great day! 🙂
