HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j178nr
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I have an HP Envy and I've got a couple questions about performance.

  • Is it safe to overclock the CPU (which is currently 2.5 GHz) to 3.0 GHz or higher safely?
  • Is it worth overclocking?
  • How would I go about overclocking it safely?

Here are my specs

I ran the HP product detection program and this was the exact result:

HP ENVY TouchSmart 17-j178nr Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

The extra .5 GHz would go towards gaming. Here are the games I most often play.

  • Grand Theft Auto 5 (lowest settings across the board)
  • CSGO (moderate settings)
  • Unturned (all lowest settings, excluding water, which is set to Ultra.)

Thanks for your help,

eZaF

Hi,

From my understanding, overclock in NOT an option on your Envy machine, it is locked in the BIOS.

Regards.
