Pavilion fails to stay on

Product Name: Pavilion 15-n211TX
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (32-bit)

Hi. My HP Pavillion stopped working, I believed it to be the battery going dead. So I plugged it in to charge, but now it fails to start up. Screen and fan come on for about half a second and then switches off. If I take the battery out, it won't do anything at all. The white led next to the power port is orange when battery is on the computer, white when battery is off.

Any ideas please, my wife needs the computer to continue her studies.

Could the battery be faulty and not letting the computer boot up? Why isn't the computer turning on without the battery? I thought it could run with it off. Could the charger be faulty?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Pavilion fails to stay on

Hi,

Yes it should power on with AC charge alone.

Please do a hard reset and try with AC adapter power alone, battery removed

Please troubleshoot with HP document systematically: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03515402

Try recovering BIOS using key press combination: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02693833#AbT0

Re: Pavilion fails to stay on

Hey. Nope. No luck on that either. I just can't get the machine to stay on. Goes to start up then switches itself off. Someone's I see the HP logo for about half a second, sometimes not even that far. If I press ESC during the start up, sometimes I may see a glance of the menu but then shuts down again.

Very frustrating... Only had the hard drive replaced late last year.

Re: Pavilion fails to stay on

That seems like BIOS corrupted or board issue.

I understand it is frustrating. I've been through this.

You may well be aware that we're volunteers here helping members with technical issues troubleshooting step by step

This is not the official HP technical support

HP maintains no official presence here

I would suggest you to get the notebook checked by good board level technician.

Re: Pavilion fails to stay on

Hi. Yes, I understand. I took it to a store this morning and we worked out that it was the power supply to the computer.

Plugged one of theirs in and it worked. Very strange, it had them baffled as they tested my power supply volts and tested ok, but would't power up the computer. Maybe not enough amps!

I thought it was strange that when I had the battery out the computer wouldn't power up with the power supply only. Left it on charge all night and still didn't charge battery this morning.

I had my suspisions but couldn't confirm without another supply.

Anyway, I bought a new power supply and works fine.

Thanks for your help.
