HP G42-415DX
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

After my HP G42-415DX crashed, MS local office HAD TO do a clean Windows 10  (Home) install. Though I'm up and running, but my display is shorty and problems with audio drivers.

Any help please?

Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but the problem you're up against is that Microsoft only supplies drivers with the most basic functionality, and what you really need for FULL functionality is the specialized drivers written for the specific hardware found in your HP PC -- and unfortunately, there are no HP Win10 drivers for your PC. HP only guarantees Win10 compatibility for machines made after August, 2013. HP does not have any schedule indicating when, or IF, they will be producing drivers for the older machines.

This means that your PC is most likely NEVER going to be fully functional under Win10 because the drivers it needs for full functionality simply do not exist!

I cannot thank you enough for a rapid response. Though what you said is bad news, my alternative is to request MS (who originally reinstalled my crash with a Windows 10 over the factory Windows 7) to instead install Windows 7.

I'll call MS local office on Tuesday ans ask if that could be done. Prior to installing a fresh Windows 10, they did give me a choice of Windows 7, but I foolishly asked for Windows 10. No one there told be of difficulties that you have described.

If they could install Win7, which I originally had; will that then restore the same drivers that came with the machine? My having put Windows 10 on top of the Win7, was how I had functioned until the crash.

I appreciate your help
