Before it connects the caution light come on the click pad and then the curser will not move at all.

Did you (accidentally?) disable the click/touch pad?
Some people deliberately disable it, and connect an external mouse, to control the movement of the on-screen mouse-pointer.

Some people deliberately disable it, and connect an external mouse, to control the movement of the on-screen mouse-pointer.
