HP Spectre x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-f1000 (508S1AV)

There are a few posts about touchscreens not working on the Spectre/Envy series after firmware updates without any resolution.  I had this happen and I am happy to report that after giving up twice, I did manage to fix it.

Symptoms:

Following a firmware/bios update, no touchscreen response even within the HP UEFI testing suite.  So we know it's not a driver issue or something within Windows.

Solution:

For my computer it was Softpaq 138532, which is a firmware update for Elan touchscreens.  I had previously tried to install this update and it seemed to complete but with errors.  This time, I instead extracted the .exe file (right click > extract to...) and then ran the executable UpdateMultiDevicesEDID.exe.  This time, it went through a longer screen and then... I immediately have my touchscreen back!  Pen input with pressure is also working

Hope this is useful to someone.  I am not an HP employee.
