How do I disable the touch pad?  When I go to settings, the disable selection is not available (grey).

Hi @EasyRiderMB

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Try these re-installing the touchpad drivers -

1) Right click on the start or Windows icon and open the "Device Manager".
2) Expand the "Mice and other pointing devices".
3) Right click on the "Synaptics TouchPad".
4) Click on uninstall and restart the computer.

To disable the touchpad driver, try these steps -

1) Click Start , and then type mouse in the search field.
2) Click Change your mouse settings.
3) Click Additional mouse options.

4) In Mouse Properties, click the Touchpad tab.

5) Click Disable.

6) Click Apply, and then click OK.

Let me know how that goes.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.

This is what I run into:

Get to Mouse, select additional mouse options, select mouse properties, select hardware, there are two options and I select Synaptics SMBus TouchPad (it defaults to HID-compliant mouse), select Driver Tab = Disable Device is there but not available.

Suggestions?

Try thee steps -

1) In the search box, type and open Run and type “regedit” (without quotes) and hit enter.

2) Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Synaptics\SynTPEnh, right click and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value and name it "DisableIntPDFeature".

Modify its value to 33 in hexadecimal, or 51 in decimal to enable it to be default on.

3) Exit registry and restart the computer.

Before attempting the above steps, please backup the registry. You may refer to this document for steps.

Way above my pay grade.  I'll live with it or take it to someone who really knows what they are doing.

Thank you for your time and assistance.
