Hello,

I've had this problem with my laptop display for about half a year.

When the laptop starts, the backlight turns on, but there is no display of Windows. When connected to an external monitor or projector, this displays the image with no problem. Thus, my question is: if my GPU and backlight are working, what component is causing the problem and how can I fix it?

It is worth mentoning that sometimes on start up the display came back to life, and then if no shutdown or battery depletion occured, it would function normally. However, if the battery ran out, the problem came back (since I very often just put the laptop on sleep, this system functioned for a while...) Then, a couple of weeks ago this happened again, and the display hasn't worked since. I am now working with an external monitor.

Looking forward to your answers.

Many thanks,

Stefania

As I understand the external monitor works fine whereas the HP Laptop doesn't have a display,

I recommend installing the latest drivers, if the issue is intermittent with the laptop display, however, if there is no display anymore,
Please contact HP Phone support for a replacement LCD assembly

Hi,

and thanks for the answer. I will contact my local HP service by telephone for further advice.

However, I'm pretty sure the full LDC itself isn't broken (as I said, it used to come up, and the backlight definitely works). Is it possible that just a cable connecting the GPU to the LCD broke down?

Oh, and also, the LCD never showed any signs of failure such as dead pixels or not displaying part of the screen

@Stefania

Thank you for replying,

It's entirely possible that a cable alone is broken/not working but contacting support is the safest way to resolve all the issues,

Nevertheless, if you can identify the cable and replace it on your own, you could find and order the part using this link: Click here

Keep me posted,

Regards,
