Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand from your post that you are having an issue with vertical lines on the display of your Pavilion G4 notebook.
From your description it sounds like there may be a loose connection since the issue changes depending on the positioning of the display, however, you can try following the documents for Video playback issues and Troubleshooting a Notebook LCD Panel Issue.
