I installed a new modem/router from my cable company. I set it up on my printer and it shows connected. When I try to print multiple pages, it takes a very long time then simply cancels the print. I do get the message in the print queue that it is connected to the printer and printing, but it just grinds. So I've tried to print one page at a time. It eventually does it, but is extremely slow.

I don't know what I am doing wrong but I cry to right click in the blank space under the listed printer in the Printers & Scanners w..... Sorry but this system isn't letting me overwrite the text... I've tried to right click in the space below my listed printer in the Printers & Scanners window and nothing happens. By the way, I have a Macbook Pro Retina.

Hello, @1Victoria – Hope you are well 🙂
Allow me to welcome you to HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.
I understand that you are facing issues with your Officejet 8600. I will try my best to find you a solution 🙂
Let’s try to reset the printing system which will help you fix the issue most of the times. Here are the steps:
- Click the Apple menu icon, and then click “System Preferences”.
- Click “Printers and Scanner” / “Print and Scan” or “Print and Fax”.
- Right-click the blank space in the Printers list, and then click “Reset printing system”.
- Click “Reset” in the confirmation window.
- Enter an administrator username and password, and then click “OK”.
- Wait until the printing system is reset and no devices show in the Printers list
- Restart your computer and then go back to System preferences – Printers and scanners.
- Click the “Add button” (+).
- Find, and then select the name of your printer from the printer list, and then click “Add” to add your printer.
- Click “Print Using...”, and then select the name of your printer (By default “Airprint” would be selected)
Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance.
Good luck 🙂

When I take my computer next to the printer, I have 5 on my computer. Could that be the problem? I have my router in the basement and a boster on the 1st floor. The printer is on the second floor and again, my computer has plenty of connection, but the printer seems to struggle. Maybe that is the problem?

Hi @1Victoria,
I reviewed the post. Thanks for the reply. Please try that and let us know the results. Move the printer closer to the router and check.
If this does not do the trick for you, please let us know.
Thanks and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm I deleted the printer but the setup assitant won't let me select to install the printer. It only recognizes that I successfully installed it when I purchased it. How do I re-install something that won't let me? The printer does not show up on my list for installation.

Hello @1Victoria
Thanks for the reply & appreciate your efforts 🙂
Please try the steps below:
1) Uninstall the old printer drivers first. Follow the steps mentioned here: http://hp.care/2cKwLyC
2) Now run the Apple Software Update. Check here for steps: http://hp.care/2cNgw3C
3) Restart your MAC & printer.
4) Now click http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/HP_Quick_Start/osx/Applications/HP_Easy_Start.app.zip to download and install the printer driver.
That should do the trick! Let me know!
Good luck 🙂

Thank you for your assistance. I didn't uninstall but instead downloaded the drivers again and reinstalled. It is now working, though very slow. I have a Netgear extender that doesn't seem to be picking up the signal for the new router, which is why the printer doesn't have a very good internet connection. More work to do but this issue is closed. Thanks all!
