- Ralink RT5390 Wifi Adapter Unable to be Enabled after Window...

After a Windows 10 update on or about 10/27/2016 my Wireless Adapter (Ralink RT5390 Wireless) will not ENABLE.
Prior to this update, it has worked without difficulty. After this update...it does not matter what I do....the Wireless Adapter shows DISABLED in Settings/Network. When I 'enable' this device...it says "enabling" and then "enabled" but it continues to NOT be enabled. When I ran the command prompt for info on Network connections, the only thing that shows up is my Realtek Family Controller (Hard Wire connection). I purchased a USB Wireless thinking something had gotten corrupted in my Ralink adapter but it also refuses to be enabled. I have NO WIRELESS ability at all and it is really frustrating.
No subsequent Windows 10 updates have corrected the problem. Device Manager says my adapter is working fine.
I have tried just about every solution posted on this subject and NONE of them work. I have uninstalled and reinstalled, replaced and updated drivers over and over again and nothing works. If anyone has some NEW idea about how to resolve this issue. please chime in because nothing has worked so far. Thanks for any insight anyone has.

You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. 🙂 I have reviewed the situation and it is paramount that we address your issue. Thank you for giving us the privilege to assist you on this platform. 🙂 You’ve done awesome diagnosis and very smart troubleshooting before posting your query. Kudos to you for that. 🙂
First off, to assist you here I would require more information regarding this.
- Please let me know the complete model# of the unit.
- We also need to isolate the issue to being hardware or software related.
It certainly looks like a driver issue here. However, let’s perform a few steps here.
Please download and install the Ralink drivers from this link: http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?swItemId=ob_150624_1
Please visit this link also for Ralink drivers: https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/WiFi-not-working-after-Windows-10-ins...

Link 3: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/10741/windows-10-fix-network-connection-issues
- If nothing works, please try these steps.
- Press the “windows” Key and letter “R” simultaneously.
- It brings up the run command dialog box.
- Here please type “Services.msc” and push ok or hit enter.
- It opens up the services window. Here please look for the WLAN AutoConfig service.
- Then stop the service first and restart it. Then ensure that it is enabled and is automatic. (starts automatically every time)
- Then right-click on the same service and click on properties and enable all dependency services especially RPC service.
I know you are technically competent to perform all these steps. 🙂 I request you to do it to try and correct the situation. 🙂
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I genuinely hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. 🙂 Please reach out for any issues and I'll be there to assist you.

Thanks! I had found another source for checking the Services and this is exactly where the problem was. Although Windows was telling me that there was a problem with the driver...it was not. WLAN Autoconfig was set to Manual and was not started. Once I switched it to Automatic and Started the Service.....the Wireless Adapter starting showing 'Disconnected' as opposed to "Disabled". I was then able to connect to the network and now everything is working fine. This took a very long time with me spending tons of time researching driver problems and "Windows unable to bind to the IP protocol stack" which all were just a wild goose chase. I should have posted here sooner and would have got resolution sooner. Lesson learned. 🙂
