HP Laptop ENVY 17-j140us
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello everyone,

I am running the laptop Envy 17-j140us (F9M13UA#ABA), Windows 8.1 when suddenly I noticed a purple/pink sort of rash at the top right corner of my screen. Disregarding it, I opened up my social media and then the entire screen had weird vivid glitchy colors with a vaporwave-like palette, causing my screen to freeze for 3 seconds and unfreeze for the same period of time.  Here are some pictures to show what is happening, this first image is how it normally looks. (That is me in the reflection)18195545_1665735113451803_572711189_o.jpg

When I open up a browser, this is how it looks.

And finally, when I increase or decrease the brightness, here is what happens.

I have tried restaring the laptop and updating the display driver, however no change appears to occur. For a brief period of time after turning the laptop off there is only a streak of pink pixels at the top right part of my screen, only for the full vibrance of glitch colors to shortly flood my screen when I open my browser per se.

Any assistance with this issue is most appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Greetings @Teo_k88

Welcome to HP Forums and Thanks for the post.

I understand that you are getting different colors on your computer, like streaks.

Not to worry, I will be glad to help.

Have you checked the display in BIOS or recovery manager?

Recommend you shut down the computer.

Wait for a minute.

Turn the computer On and keep tapping F10 on startup.

This would take your computer to BIOS.

If the display is the same in BIOS, please contact our phone support for the service options available for your computer.

Please follow the procedure mentioned below to contact our phone support.

  • Open link:  www.hp.com/contacthp/
  • Enter Product number or select to auto detects
  • Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
  • Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number.

Let me know how it goes.

Aloha @Chimney_83,

Prior to your post I tried a couple of solutions and one of them was found to have successfully removed a large portion of the pixels.

For my procedure I used a fist accelerating at a high velocity towards the center of my screen and it appears to have alleviated the amount of abnormal pixels present.

I did not want to leave you without a response, so if this situation occurs again (I presume it probably will, and force could potentially not work) I shall indeed try your method.

Thank you very much for your reply however, I appreciate it.
