I bought this machine yesterday. It came with a one page Setup Instruction which says after switching on "Go wireless, Select the network icon in the lower right hand corner of the taskbar." But when I switch on only the command prompts appears (OS is FreeDos). There is no taskbar nor any icon. How do I connect to my wifi. Thanks

Hi, @utpaul
Normally folks buy notebooks with FeeDOS because they are less expensive and it is assumed that the purchaser will install their own Windows operating system.
CF4's suggestion is a good one except for the problem that there are no drivers for the model wifi adapter your notebook comes with, except for W7, W8.1 and W10.
So...I don't think there is any way out of your dilemma unless you have a licensed and supported 64 bit Windows operating system you can install.

I have installed Ububtu 16.04 but even here I am unable to connect to the wifi. There is no network problem as wifi is working fine in other machines.
The other details are as follows:
Brand HP
Model 15-bs615TU
Model Name HP 15
Wireless Type 802.11B, 802.11G, 802.11n
Connector Type Wireless

Hi
Post now irrelevant.
Paul supplied the adapter details, so thanks.
I sometimes only see a GB/UK listing and I am in the dark with with egg on me face.
But it dont stop me stumbling forward.

Since, this is a 6th gen processor, you may install Windows 7/8.1 as well, provided you have genuine licenses. You can install in UEFI mode, as it is now the de facto. Do not go for Secureboot for a home laptop.
@utpaul : May be, you can go through this, if you intent to install Windows 10 on your laptop. It is slightly outdated, but more or less valid. Ignore the AMD Radeon 520 drivers installation step.
Ubuntu 18.04 is a very good option for your laptop. You can install it easily using Live USB or CD/DVD. If it has RTL8723DE Wireless/BT module, then you will have to get some extra steps to get it working. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Wireless-and-Networking/Realtek-8723DE-wifi-module-amp-Blueto...
