Thank you for replying,

The product key is inbuilt into your system BIOS when you reinstall the OEM (factory shipped OS) back into your computer,

It would automatically detect the product key.

You haven't created a recovery media shortly after you purchased the computer,

The same can be ordered for a minimal fee at the official HP website.

Keep me posted,

@Kain7654,

Thanks for replying. In this scenario, I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available options.

What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/contact-hp
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on HP contact options - click on Get phone number
Case number and phone number appear.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you require any further assistance.

You were told you needed HP Recovery Media to restore your PC, but instead, you took a shortcut and forced the installation from media you downloaded.

That was the WRONG thing to do -- as that media requires a Retail product key, and since your PC shipped with an HP OEM version of Windows, it only has an OEM product key.

That key can NOT be used to activate the version of Windows you installed.  To activate that, you would have to purchase a license from Microsoft, and that will cost MORE than the HP Recovery Media set of disks.
