Hello;

Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!

 

Sounds like your PC is taking a very LONG time to start up -- and in a PC this old, that is almost certainly due to a failing hard drive.

 

Please 

follow these steps:
1) Press Esc key repeatedly, several times a second, while rebooting the laptop. Do NOT hold the key down, just press it over and over.
2) Eventually, you will see an HP Startup Menu -- that will look similar to the image below ...

3) press the Function key for testing the hard drive (usually F2) and let it run.

Please report back the test results.

Only F9 and F10 shows up. Pressing F2 even though it is not displayed brings no result

"Windows is starting up" is all that spears on the screen
