Important information!

Before you will do anything please create a set of recovery discs.

All pre-installed drivers and software by HP are in the C:\swsetup folder. If you still have it on HDD then burn this folder to CD/DVD. You may need them someday.

If you haven't got now any system on your notebook / netbook then skip two above steps.

Install CPU-Z in your current system. You may download this program from here.

Below screenshot shows where you will find links to this software on CPU-Z home page.

Now run CPU-Z and select ' Mainboard ' tab.

 

You will find there two important informations about your chipset:

• brand (in above examples: Intel)

           and

• type (in above examples: PM965 and HM55).

If your laptop chipset is manufactured by:

• Intel

           Go to point B and do everything what's written there.

• Nvidia

           Go to point C and do everything what's written there.

• AMD

           Go to point D and do everything what's written there.

If you've got few Intel models and you want to use only one installation disc for all of them then:

You need to slipstream Intel SATA drivers using nLite.

For models with ION or ION LE chipset (HP Mini 311 and Compaq Mini 311c series models):

You don't need to slipstream any SATA driver.

Determine does any Service Pack (SP) has been integrated with the XP installation disc and if so, which version (it should be at least SP2). How to do it?

1. That you used 32bit_ATI_SB7xx_RAID&AHCI_driver_v9-4_WHQL and sp43839 SATA driver.

2. Notebook product numer (p/n).

3. SATA Hardware Ids.

      How to find them? Go to:
 

      Control Panel -> Device Manager -> IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers

      find on the list SATA AHCI Controller, right-click it and choose properties.

      Next select ' Details ' tab and use the dropdown selector to choose Hardware Ids.
