I am running Windows XP Home Edition SP3 on a Gateway G6-450 and I purchased my computer ensemble used. I have a very nice HP keyboard with DVD controls, Internet Controls, and other gadgets and gizmos on it. The problem is that I can not use any of them! The typical typing, F Keys, and numeric pad works, but not the 'goodies' like the volume knob, or Connect for the internet, or the Print/Fax buttons, or ANY of the "extras" included on it! I am VERY computer illiterate, but I am wondering that this is due to driver being 'generically recognized' as it is Microsoft compatible and because under the Device Manager and Keyboards from Control Panel it says "Standard 101/102-Key OR Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard. The driver is 5.1.2600.2180. I think (?) that this is just the driver put in to read it, but not the one that I could maybe download from the manufacturer (here) so that all of my buttons/gizmos will operate?? I could be wrong on this, and since it is a used-as/is purchase, maybe it just doesn't work in the first place! My problem lies in that when I put ANY of my numbers to search for the correct driver to download or to see if I already have the correct one installed, it brings back so many options and I don't see where I can match up anything to ensure that I am Downloading the correct driver. All of the numbers on the sticker are:
S/N: C9910091442
P/N: 5183-9980
Model #: SK-2506
(It looks like an 'S' and 'A' inside of a 'C'): LR86682
(It looks like a backwards 'R' connected with a 'U'): E145614
When I put these numbers into the Search Box, I get all sorts of returns, even laptops! The closest approximate that I could think it may have been is the Keyboard Media and Audio option, but the picture (what I can see of it) doesn't entirely look like my keyboard, and if there was speakers and a mouse originally, I don't know, either! I thought maybe it was that one because of the "extras" I have, but it could be that it's called Media and Audio because it came in a package with speakers and a mouse!?! If someone could be specific (because I am dumb in these matters!) and tell me the correct driver and software to download to make my keyboard work, I would sure appreciate it. Or even if perhaps this is already the correct and "full use" driver that is already installed and the keyboard itself just doesn't work? I don't know, and once again, I am extremely 'computer dumb' and this is my first computer!! I read the "Proper Post" advice, and I hope that I have included all that's needed, and have posted this in the correct forum since I couldn't find a specific forum for keyboards.... but if I have forgotten something, I apologize before hand and ask that you please tell me what further is needed (and maybe even where it is that I could locate the data that you are looking for!!), or the correct forum to go to next! Thank you ahead of time for your patience, time and effort in this matter.
