Hello,

I've had this laptop since May and it came with an Intel i3 2.13GHz CPU.  It looks easy enough to swap out the CPU (disassembled the laptop last night in about 45 minutes - its rather straightforward.  Just wondering what will be compatible, and will changing the CPU mess up the warranty ...

Thanks for your help!

the motherboard may compatible with processors up to core i7, you can check with HP Parts store what are available (http://h20141.www2.hp.com/Hpparts/Default.aspx?mscssid=1B35CEF4633F4047B42F6DAC0E602B2C), but in regards to the warranty, it only does cover what came with the package.

Check out the warranty statement on this site:

Hope this helps

@h2o2wine

I just bought a G62 with that processor last week, good to know it can be upgraded. How have you liked yours so far?

Let us know how the upgrade goes and what processor you installed., please post back when its done.

PS don't forget to install the Intel Turbo Boost driver after the upgrade.

Be careful here when upgrading to a more powerfull processor. A laptop that was designed to dissipate the heat from an i3 processor may not be up for the job for an i5 or i7.  Arctic Silver 5 will be an asset here and you may also have to use a cooling mat.

G62's can be configured from HP with these processor choices currently.

P6000

i3-350M

i3-370M

i5-450M

i5-520M

Question is do the retail versions of the G62 with the i5-430M (not offered on the HP website) have a different motherboard than the units sold on the HP website.

I have one of these G62's with the i5-430M processor, cpuid says the motherboard is a model 1425 v54.14

I would be curious to know if someone has one configured from HP with any other i5  processor and can verify their MB model and version.

I will add only one thing to this topic.

If you will change your processor then you will loose warranty on this model.

I suggest to stay with this specifications which you have now at least until your warranty will expired.

I don't know if you're going to look at this feed anytime soon, but what do you plan on doing with the old proccesor? I'd be happy to buy it off of you for 100 dollars or so, (I could buy an i5 for 150). My g62 came with an intel t4500 proccesor @ 2.3 Ghz dual core. Since it has intel hd graphics, I need something that can be overclocked or turbo boosted. [text removed for privacy]Thanks.

Hello Expertis and all,

I have an HP G62t-250 CTO Notebook Laptop with the i3 M350 @ 2.27GhZ processor, w/ 4GB DDR3 RAM.

I am looking to upgrade since the processor and amount of memory, hopefully, can be upgraded.  I'd like to ask your advice/recommendation on whether i can upgrade to an i7 processor with the following specs:

PN# 587259-001 Laptop Processor (CPU): Intel Dual-Core i7-620M mobile processor - 2.66GHz,

Also, what is the Max Memory if anyone knows of this system?  Looking to upgrade to AT LEAST 8GB DDR3 RAM, if not more.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
