Logon password vs. fingerprint swipe

I currently use a fingerprint swipe to logon to my laptop.  I only recall establishing a fingerprint swipe when I did the initial laptop setup.  I would like to establish a typed password in addition to the fingerprint swipe so others can use my laptop.  When I go into Control Panel to try and setup a typed password, it asks for my old password and will not let me establish a new password without the old password.  How do I set up a typed password in this situation?  Or, how do I check to see if I set up a typed password?
