Windows 8.1 and HP 8500 issues

I recently upgraded to Windows 8.1.  After the upgrade, the HP solution Center didn't recognize ink levels and I wasn't able to fax along with a few other minor issues.  I decided to install the latest version of the drivers and Solution Center from the website.  After downloading the software, it extracted the software but the installer just hung after that and did nothing else.  I tried several times but nothing happened.  I attempted to uninstall all HP software from the computer and I was successfull in doing it via the Prgrams and Features area of Windows.  There are no references to HP in the list.  I attempoted to install the software again but again it hangs.  Now it hangs and I don't have even the scaled down Solution Center because I uninstalled it.  Any suggestions on how to get the software package to continue the install after the extraction?

Re: Windows 8.1 and HP 8500 issues

Hi UBFGUY,

I understand that you are having a problem installing the software and drivers for your Officejet 8500 printer. I will try my best to help you resolve this issue. I recommend Restarting the Print Spooler. You want to set the Print Spooler startup type to Automatic. Then in the Command Prompt window, type sfc / scannow in the command line and then press enter. This will tell you if you have any issues with your operating system. If there are no issues then try to run the install again.

Let me know if this helped or if you need further assistance.

Thank you,

I worked on behalf of HP.

I did what you asked and System File checker said that it couldn't repair all files.  I looked in the log file that it created and near the end it read:

Does htis mean anything to you?

Just an FYI, the printer works fine within windows 8 using the Microsoft Windows driver for the 8500.  My main reason for my question was the inability to re-install HP solution Center.

I look forward to yoru response.

Re: Windows 8.1 and HP 8500 issues

I am having the same exact problem I have lost the HP Colution Center.   The driver install for Windows 8.1 64 bit just hangs and hangs and then finally says Fatal Error. It just dont work. I have tried it on my PC about 6 times and on my MP laptop at least 3 times with the same result.  The printer will print in Windows with their driver but thats it and as I stated. HP Solution is GONE on both my computers now.

Re: Windows 8.1 and HP 8500 issues

Well, it makes me feel a little better that I'm not the only HP user that's having this issue with Windows 8.1 and the printer.  Now if there was only a solution?  Ah, I can dream can't I?

Re: Windows 8.1 and HP 8500 issues

Well I can print now but get this.  HP tells me to use Windows Fax & Scan. It's almost like they are ashamed of their own software i.e. the HP Solution Center. What a joke. I print fine using Windows drivers and I can scan and fax using WINDOWS Fax and Scan.   Are you kidding me.

Re: Windows 8.1 and HP 8500 issues

Hi UBFGUY,

I understand you are still having issues with the HP Officejet Pro 8500. Uninstall the software and reinstall from this link. Don't forget to remove the USB cable before uninstalling. Reboot the computer before installing.

Re: Windows 8.1 and HP 8500 issues

My machine is a A909G but the file you're asking me to download is from the A909A support area.  Is it the same file?
