Not recognizing USB while setting up

We have an HP Deskjet 3050 J610. It has been connected and printed fine wirelessly before, but we got a new modem so I had to set it up again. During the setup of a new printer, it finds the wireless signal and everything is fine until it gets to temporarily connect printer to USB to finish the setup. I plug in the USB connection and it does not recognize it right away so I have to check the box that says ' my printer is already connected to a USB ' and then I hit 'next'. It comes up with a box that says it is not connected to a USB. But it is. I even try other USB ports, but nothing. I don't understand why it is not recognizing that it is connected via USB. It has never done this before.

Thank you!!!

Re: Not recognizing USB while setting up

OK, I assume you are plugging USB directly into your computer, not through a USB hub.

What router are you using?  What operating system?
