Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have just bought and opened a new HP PhotoSmart 7520 e-all-in-one. While going through the initial set-up, I received the message "missing or failed printhead". I find it absolutely horrible that a brand new product is already giving me this message. I've done my due diligence and followed the online troubleshooting instructions to remove the cartridges and clean it. Didn't work. Went to step 2 of the doc and unplugged, waited and re-plugged. Same message.

I haven't even had time to register this printer yet and already I am frustrated at the shoddy workmanship of this product.

So, has anyone been able to solve this issue?

And if an HP representative tries to tell me to follow the instructions on the troubleshooting doc....let me refer you to the above message that states I already have and it didn't help/work. Let me remind you as well that this is occurring during the initial set-up.....I shouldn't have to go through this for a brand new machine. Nor should the multitude of other people I have seen posting this same issue.

If you have already done all the steps in the troubleshooting document here you will need to contact HP for service or return it to your dealer for exchange.

From a post by Sunshyn2005, to contact HP Support see the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click on: HP contact options - click on Get phone number

Case number and phone number appear.

Today I spent an average of 6 hours trying to fix my HP 7520 Printer Msg. Printhead failed or missing.  Purchased Feb. or March 2014.  I read and read HP online and a hard copy of the instruction manual.  Somewhere, I read about priming ink cartridges.  And that is what I did after I cleaned  the Pinhead Assembly and reseated it 3 or 4 times.  I dropped 1 or 2 drops of water into the circle of the ink well and gently squeezed and shook it gently and waited about 5 minutes. Then, I reseated each cartledge. Pressed gently with a little pressure each ink cart. and took them out and replace them about 3 times.  I even read about how pull on the little tabs so the the cartledges snap into place better.

Guess what happen next?...the printer went into the wind-up process and all the information on the screen came up.  I then went into tools and did the six steps on that screen.  Turn off and on severals times and each time the printer went through it's function.  Printed the alignment sheet, ink levels, and rest of the 6 checks of the electronic machine.

I did not even,  want to think about buying another copier.  I knew I treated this equipment with respect and did not abuse it.  So, it payed off...I fixed it.  No more msg. and no buying a new printhead and I did not buy any new ink cartridges...$75.00 or more.  All I did was clean...The End.
