@Subhabrata3471

Welcome to HP Support Forums. 🙂 I came across your post and would like to help.

I understand that you have an HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer and the cartridge is not compatible. Not to worry, I'll do my best to help you.

I would like to know the following information to assist you better:

  • Which country do you reside in and was the printer purchased from the country?
  • Did you replace the cartridge recently?
  • Did the error appear all of sudden while using an existing cartridge which worked fine earlier on the same printer?

Meanwhile, I did some research and found the list of compatible cartridges for you:

If you're using the correct cartridge and error still appears then I suggest you to perform the following steps:

  • Disconnect the power cable from the printer while the printer is still ON.
  • Disconnect any other cables if connected the printer.
  • Press and hold the printer’s power button for 15 seconds.
  • The printer should be directly connected to the wall outlet and not to a surge protector. Reconnect the power cable to print and the printer should power ON by itself. If the printer doesn’t power ON then please manually power it ON.
  • Please perform the steps as described in detail from this link which is known to fix such issues.

I sincerely hope this fixes the issue. Let me know. Cheers! 🙂

Hi Kazi, at the outset, many thanks for the solution offered.
I believe the question posted from my end was not sufficient and till you tried your best to answer. Thats awesome!!

To answer your questions:
a. I brought the Printer from Curry's London (May 2014). But have shifted to India (August 2014) and carried the 301 Cartridges with me as I doubted the availability of compatible Cartridge back in India.
I used to refill the 301 from a peripheral shop in my locality and it worked fine. I called HP Service Center in India and they advised me that 802 is the compatible cartridge for DJ 2540.

b. I havent used the Printer for  long (last used in March 2016) and then I got it fully serviced and intended to use it again in March 2017.

c. I have purchased a 802 pack (Black + Tri Color) and inserted in the slot and it showed "Incompatible Cartridge" when I am trying to get a print.

So may I go with the following solution that you proposed?
