I have changed my wifi provider and my Mac cannot find the printer anymore.

Should I have a cable to connect the printer to Mac? Do i need to cable connect printer to router?

Thank you for using HP Forum,

As you have changed the Router you might have to reconfigure the wireless settings on the printer as the printer still have the old Wireless network settings.

To reconfigure the wireless settings on the printer, you will have to reset the wireless settings on the printer and then connect the printer to your new router.

To restore network settings on the printer, please make sure the printer is on. While the printer is on, please press and hold Wireless button and Cancel Button (x) simultaneously for about 5 seconds and release the buttons. The Wireless Button is the button below  the Cancel Button.

Once the network settings are restored, you will have to connect the printer to the new network or router.

To do so, you have 2 ways, one is by connecting the printer to the computer via wireless direct and then access the EWS page of the printer and enter the Wireless settings and save the settings.

The second method, is by connecting the printer to the computer via USB and then go to HP Utility and click on Wireless Settings and enter the wireless settings.

Below are the detailed steps for both the methods.

Steps to connect the printer via Wireless direct and then access the EWS page and enter the wireless settings.

1. First restore network defaults on the printer bu pressing and holding the Wireless Button and Cancel Button simultaneously for 5 seconds and then release the buttons.

2. Once the network settings are restored, please press the Wireless Direct Button on the printer (The Wireless Direct Button, is the button below Wireless Button and above Black Copy Button.

3. Once you press the Wireless Direct button, the light will start blinking and the printer might print a Wireless Direct page with the password.

4. Then you will have to go to the Mac Book and click on the Wireless icon in the top Right hand corner and you will see a Network which starts with Direct and the model number of the printer for example (Direct - HP Deskjet 2540). Please select that network and connect.

5. If you are prompted for the wireless key or password, please enter the password as 12345678 or you will find the key in the page printed when you press the wireless direct button.

6. Once the computer is connected to the printers Wireless Direct Network, please open Safari and in the address bar enter 192.168.223.1 and click go or Enter.

7. This will open the EWS Page of the printer. please click on Networking Tab and then click on Wireless and click on Wireless Setup Wizard and you can select your wireless network and enter the wireless security key and click on next and continue and click on Save and close the page.

8. Then click on the Wireless Icon on the Mac in the top Right hand corner and select your network (Your new router network and not the Direct network of the printer).

9. Then click on the Apple Icon on the top left hand corner and click on System Preferences.

10. In the System Preferences, please click on Printers and Scanners and select the printer that is already listed and click on the - sign and then click on the + sign and select your printer and click on Add.

This will enable to you print wirelessly again.

Second method to connect the printer via USB and then enter the wireless settings. Please follow the steps below:

1. First restore network defaults on the printer bu pressing and holding the Wireless Button and Cancel Button simultaneously for 5 seconds and then release the buttons.

2. Once the network settings are restored, please connect the printer to the computer via USB cable and then click on the Apple Icon in the top Left hand corner of the menu bar and then click on System Preferences.

3. In the System Preferences, please click on Printers and Scanners and select the printer that is already listed and click on the - sign and then click on the + sign and select your printer and click on Add.

4. Then in the Printers and Scanners Window, please select the printer and click on Print tab and then click on Options and Supplies and then click on Utility Tab and click on Open Printer Utility.

5. This will open the HP Printer utility. In the HP Utility please select the printer and then click on All Settings and then click on wireless settings.

6.  Then select your network or router and enter the wireless network key and click on OK. This will connect the printer to the network. Then disconnect the USB cable.

7. Then click on the Apple Icon in the top Left hand corner of the menu bar and then click on System Preferences.

8. In the System Preferences, please click on Printers and Scanners and select the printer that is already listed and click on the - sign and then click on the + sign and select your printer and click on Add.

This will enable you to print wirelessly.
