HP Pavilion 17
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

I want to update the BIOS of my HP Pavilion 17-e163sg (currently running BIOS version F.33).

The machine is running a Linux OS and since the HP BIOS update installer only runs on Windows, I tried to apply this HP instruction to update from USB drive that is created on another (Windows 10 64-bit) computer.

When executing the setup file (sp79620.exe), the installer runs until step 7 in the instructions (where I accept the License) and then closes. Until this point it created the folder 'SWSetup'.

I also tried turning off Antivirus software when executing the installer, without effect.

Back when I still had Windows on the machine I want to update, I also tried to execute the installer there but same result (which means I never got to the point where I could select to 'Update the BIOS on this device').

So it's the same issue on different machines.

I didn't dare to manually execute the applications in the mentioned folder, (FWUpdLcl.exe, InsydeFlash.exe, FlsHook.exe (which is not responding anyway)) on the computer, that I do not want to update, though.

How can I get the program running? Any suggestions are very much appreciated 🙂

Let me know, if any more details are needed.

Thanks in advance
