Disabling Aero theme did the magic. I followed this:
However, I am surprised HP didn't test this or did they ship defective product?

I've had this same problem since building my laptop with Win7 64... tried all available updates from HP, then did a little research, and finally took a chance on asking Windows to update the driver itself, and for once an update was available on Windows Updates that actually fixed it!
For reference the driver version I have working is :22.214.171.1249

Hi Correction to that last post, it seemed to work for a while and I got over excited.
The actual fix it turns out, is to disabled Intel Virtualisation Technology in the BIOS. After I did this Windows crashed twice shortly after booting before getting itself together, it's been fine for two days since.
Probably not a great idea if you're using VMWare or something, but works for me.
Idea came from here: http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/specupdate/320123.
