Network controller problem

Hi guys

I need help. I recently had my labtop crash so I reinstalled a new version of windows 7 (from home edition to Professional). I reinstalled as many drivers as I could from the HP site and everything seemed to be working fine except for the wireless network card which wont look for networks. Normally this is the first thing it would do when logging on windows. I can still use the internet with a fixed connection. Under device manager there is a yellow exclamation point under the Network controller it says that I need a new driver but windows is not able to find it online. I tried installing some of the drivers under HP for my product but nothing works.  My product is a DM4-HP1060US with Windows 7 64 bit pro. I hope you can help me......

Sincerely, Alvin

HI,

All of the drivers for Windows 7 64-bit are on the support pages for your notebook. You might find it simpler to use the HP Support Assistant to locate drivers for your notebook's devices.

Best regards,
erico.

Re: Network controller problem

First of all thanks for your answer. I have installed the realtek driver on the support page but nothing changes. I am still not able to see a wireless assistant logo in the down right corner as I use to nor can I find an update to create an HP wireless assistant under the drivers for my labtop. Also the exclamation point above the network controller persists. I have tried opening the hp assistant and it says that no pending orders need to be made and under network and connectivity it detects no wireless networks at all but it seems to recognize that I have a realtek PCIe GBE Family controller. I am connected to the internet through a wired connection. What can I do.....??? This is getting more complicated by the minute. Something is missing. Should I try and delete Realtek drivers and reinstall everything again, would that help?

HI,

I only see options for these to be installed in your notebook:

1)  Atheros wireless

2)  Intel Pro/Wireless/ProSet

Here is a link to the drivers for Windows 7 64-bit for your notebook  at the HP support pages

 Realtek PCIe GBE is the wired LAN. It is not your wireless network controller! Do not uninstall it.

Can you post a screenshot using Windows 7 snipping tool of your device manager with the network adapter section opened?

I recommend that you install the HP BIOS Update UEFI that is located in the Drivers & Software section of the support pages for your notebook.

Best regards,
erico

Re: Network controller problem

Dear Erico

Thanks for your answer. I tried to install all the updates but it seems that the actual controller or wireless netcard is not connected properly or something. I took two screeshots for you to see. Caption 2 is in Danish but it is a message that is displayed while I install the Atheros driver. Basically it says what I just said and in Caption 1 you see that something is up with the driver etc. cause it is not installed eventhough I just installed all three drivers you mentioned. If you think opening the labtop to adjust the netcard should be the next step would you know how to guide me in terms of what and where to open the labtop and locating the card?

Sincerely, Alvin

Re: Network controller problem

@alvin_35

Hi,
Go to:

Control Panel -> Device Manager

Right click Network Conroller with yellow exclamation mark ( ) and choose ' Properties '. Next select ' Details ' tab and paste here Hardware Ids . This way we will know what kind of driver you need.

Below you've got example how to do it:
