Re: My laptop connecting to the network but not the internet!!

Hi,

From the Start Menu, click All Programs, click Accessories, right click the Command Prompt and select 'Run as Administrator'.  Into the prompt type the following commands, hitting enter after each command.  Include spaces in the commands as shown.

ipconfig /flushdns

nbtstat -R

nbtstat -RR

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

netsh winsock reset

Type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC and see if you can now connect.

Regards,

Re: My laptop connecting to the network but not the internet!!

Thank you DP-K so much.  I have been trying everything to get my laptop that is connecting to the wireless network at home and work, but to the internet.  I'm not sure how it happened that my IP address needed resetting though.

Re: My laptop connecting to the network but not the internet!!

[ Edited ]

I am having this same problem with my new HP.  I just purchased an HP Envy 6 Notebook and am unable to connect it to my wifi network.  I can hardwire it in but that defeats the purpose of wifi capabilities obviously.  It is running Windows 7.  I tried the fix above but it did not work and now the system is also saying the Default Gateway is not available.  I tried calling HP and they rerouted me to Microsoft who said they won't help unless I pay them.  This is my last attempt to get this computer connected to the internet through the wifi connection before I ship it back to HP.

Re: My laptop connecting to the network but not the internet!!

If you tried that fix up there, and it did not work, then you can try resetting your network settings by going into control panel - network settings - advanced settings and hitting reset network configurations. I heard that also works. Other than that, it might be a problem with your wifi, but I doubt it. I'm not really the expert on this thread.

Re: My laptop connecting to the network but not the internet!!

I follow the command and here what happen. I did it twice.

First time I did it!

I type :   ipconfig /flushdns

window IP configuration

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

I type: nbtstat –R

Successful purge and preload of the NBT Remote Cache Name Table.

I type: nbtstat –RR

The NetBIOS names registered by this computer have been refreshed.

I type: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Reseting Echo Request, failed.

Access is denied

There’s no user specified setting to be reset.

(went to the next step)

I type: netsh winsock reset

 Sucessfully reset the Winsock Catalog.

You must restart the computer in order to complete the reset.

I type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC to see if I can connect to the internet.

Nothing happen! I still have network  but wasn’t connecting to the internet.

Second time here what happen

I type :   ipconfig /flushdns

window IP configuration

Successfully flushed the DNS Resolver Cache.

I type: nbtstat –R

Successful purge and preload of the NBT Remote Cache Name Table.

I type: nbtstat –RR

The NetBIOS names registered by this computer have been refreshed.

I type: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Reseting Echo Request, failed.

Access is denied

Reseting Interface, OK!

A reboot is required to complete this action.

I type exit and hit enter.  Restart the PC to see if I can connect to the internet.

Still nothing happen! I still have network available, but can’t connect to the internet.

could someone please help me with this.  i had try a lot of way!

I try this also!

The ipconfig /renew is used to renew your IP adress, but before you can do this, you need release your actually IP, for do this, you can use the ipconfig /release, after you write this command on CMD you can use the ipconfig /renew.

I type : ipconfig /release (to release my actually IP), then I type: ipconfig /renew(to renew my IP address)

When I type : ipconfig /renew

I got the following:

Windows IP Configuration

An error occurred while renewing interface Wireless network Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out.
No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected.
No operation can be performed on Network Connect Adapter while it has its media disconnected.

Thank you for your time! hope you can help!

Re: My laptop connecting to the network but not the internet!!

Do you have any virus protection or firewalls (other than Windows) running?

Also, could you please tell me what version of Windows you are using and the model number of your notebook?

Thanks,

Kyle
