Hi HP!
My girlfriend recently bought an HP Pavilion Model QCWB335 and she is experiencing issues with crackling sounds coming from the speakers. We have already tried rebooting the computer, lowering the volume down to 50 % and using headphones (same problem occurs). What should be done in order to solve this issue?
Best Regards,
Jakob and Katarina

Hi @emmikatarina ,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are getting a crackling sounds coming from the speakers of your HP Pavilion Notebook PC. I will try my best to help you with this issue.
Here are some instructions from SuperMario1 on how to resolve this.
1. Go into Control Panel, then Sound.
2. Under the Playback tab, double click on Speakers to open Properties.
3. Go to Advanced tab. In the drop down, select the highest quality stereo output.
4. Click Apply and close all windows.
If that didn't help, then here's round 2:
1. Instead of the Playback tab, go to the Recording tab.
2. Double click on Stereo Mix.
3. Go to Advanced tab, and select highest quality from the drop down.
4. Click Apply and close all windows.
These steps should be enough to resolve the issue. If not, I would recommend a System Restore next, if the issue began recently. I want you to bring the computer back to the earliest restore point possible, in an attempt to dodge whatever caused the issue. Here is a document on how to perform a System Restore: System Restore
If the issue is not yet resolved, then please answer the following:
1. Does this issue only occur on online videos (to be certain, test something using Windows Media Player)? If so, is it only YouTube (to be certain, play a video from another site)?
2. Do any other devices in your house behave this way when you are streaming music? Specifically, if you have another device in the same physical location of the laptop, will it behave the same way?
3. If this computer to connected to the network via Ethernet, instead of wireless, does the same behavior occur?
4. If the computer is distanced between 6 and 8 feet from the router, does the same behavior occur?
5. Have you installed any new software or drivers on this computer, before the issue appeared?
I hope this helps, please let me know how everything goes and any issues that you run into.
Good luck and have a great day!

THIS DEFINITELY WORKS FOR ALL HP MODELS WITH B&O
PERMANENTLY RESOLVE HP SPEAKER COMPRESSION (HISSING, CRACKLING DISTORTION WHEN PLAYING VIDEO, MUSIC, ETC)
The problem is caused by Bang and Olufsen audio correction compression - you need to change the driver from Realtek,
to the normal high definition device driver. This affects a lot of HP models with B&O sound. The first part disables the
Realtek driver - the second deletes it permanently.
It's simple and takes 2-3 minutes.
CLICK START - GO TO DEVICE MANAGER
IN THE LIST CLICK 'SOUND VIDEO AND GAME CONTROLERS'
RIGHT CLICK 'REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DEVICE' - CHOOSE DISABLE - IGNORE WARNING AND CONTINUE
RIGHT CLICK SAME FILE CHOOSE 'UPDATE DRIVER SOFTWARE' THEN 'BROWSE COMPUTER FOR DEVICE SOFTWARE'
CHOOSE 'LET ME PICK FROM A LIST OF DEVICE DRIVERS ON MY COMPUTER'
HIGHLIGHT 'HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO' (NOT REALTEK) CLICK 'NEXT' AGAIN IGNORE WARNING AND CLICK 'YES' -
RESTART / REBOOT WHEN PROMPTED
PLAY A FILE - YOU NOW HAVE NORMAL LAPTOP SOUND!
***IMPORTANT - THE DRIVER WILL REVERT TO REALTEK THE NEXT TIME YOU REBOOT, UNLESS YOU DO THE SECOND PART BELOW)***
AFTER REBOOT (TO **PERMANENTLY GET RID OF THE PROBLEM**)
CLICK START - GO TO THE CONTROL PANEL - 'UNINSTALL A PROGRAM'
HIGHLIGHT REALTEK HIGH DEFINITION AUDIO DEVICE AND UNINSTALL IT - ignore any warning
IT'S AN IDEA TO CREATE A RESTORE POINT BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS IN CASE YOU MAKE A MISTAKE - IF YOU HAVE AN EARLIER RESTORE POINT YOU CAN SIMPLY ROLL BACK TO THAT. IT IS SIMPLE THOUGH IF YOU FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS. MAKE SURE YOU WANT TO PERMANENTLY GET RID OF B&O BEFORE UNINSTALLING.

HI,
Just thought I would let you know that it happened to me. I was trying to listen t o something and I accidently pressed a button in sound settings and ever since it made the crackling and "alien" sound. I have a hp Pavilion 360 on windows 10. Anyway I finally got it to work by dissconecting my beats headphones. I dont know why but that was the issue. So I dissconnected my beats, but then I could still hear it so I restarted my computer and now it is absalutely fine. I can hear my songs. I have NOT tried to reconnect my beats but I do plan to.
Just to let you know I did try mucking around with the sound control stuff and bang and olsen sound settings and none of it worked. I hope this was helpful!!!!!!!

Apologies for belated response. Thank you for useful suggestions which I will try. Sound which I am hearing is from speakers is loud "pop" rather than "cracking". This occurs only when destop is shutting down or has been instructed to "sleep".
