If you are connecting via network and you let windows or the HP utility perform the install then in most cases it will have used a Windows WSD port for the print driver. This system while nice in theory is flawed and unreliable.  On your PC go to control panel >devices and printers>then right click on your printer icon and select printer properties from the drop down menu.  Then go to the ports tab and see what port is being used. If it is WSD click add port, new Standard TCP/IP port and use the network address of the printer when prompted for an address.

Is it out of paper or is your computer trying to print to a paper type that is not loaded in the printer.

These are the two examples of "out of paper" messages.  After I turn my computer back on it will print two pages then say out of paper, this is when I open and close the paper tray for some reason.
