Hi @CHAMPIONCOS,
Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums!
I see that you would like to know how to scan a two-sided document with the automatic document feeder on your HP Photosmart 7525 e-All-in-One Printer. I will certainly do my best to help you and please remember to return to this thread and mark 'Accept as Solution', if I have successfully helped you resolve the issue. If you wish to say 'thanks' for my effort to help, click the 'thumbs up' to give me a Kudos.
In order to assist you better, I will need to know which operating system you have.
NOTE: To duplex scan with printer you need to initiate the scan from the software. It will require you to flip the pages to resume the scan.
If you need further assistance, please let me know the following information above. I look forward to hearing from you. 🙂

Thanks for your offer to help.
I am operating under Windows 7 and have a 64 bit processor.
I know how to print on two sides by using the software. Print > Properties > pull down print on both sides > then flip on long edge or short edge.
Scanning a single side of multiple documents is easy. I place the originals in the top tray, Devices and Printers > Select my printer if necessary, I have only one printer, HP Photosmart 7525 which is the default, then on the top click on "Start Scan" .
The document or multiple documents feed into the printer and are scanned. I am able to type in a name tag for each scan.
First - How do I set up scanning on both sides?
Second - When I type in a tag name the output is alway a leader text followed by the tag name I typed. How do I eliminate OR change that leader text?
Thank you for your continued support.
Please make your follow up help as easy to understand as possible as I am a senior, age 79.

HI @CHAMPIONCOS
Thanks for getting back to me and providing more information.
The only way to scan two-sided documents with your printer is from HP Scan.
To duplex scan from the software on the PC:
- Open the HP Printer Assistant software.
- Select Scan a Document or Photo.
- Locate Source and select Document (Item Type) to PDF (File Type).
- Select the Automatic Document Feeder (Source).
- After selecting Automatic Document Feeder, a check box will appear below this option to turn on duplex scanning.
- Select Two-Sided or Double-sided (duplex).
- Set the other options as desired and start the scan.
I hope this information is helpful. Please respond to this post with the results. Good Luck!

Thank you for your instructions.
This does not solve the problem. It requires me to scan one side of the document(s) they by hand, take them out of the lower tray and place them in the upper tray for a scan of the second side.
This is scanning two sides manually which I am doing now one docuement at a time.
Some of my documents are one sided and some two sided.
This system works only if all the docuemnts are two sided but still requires me to shuffle documents around.
When I print two sided, one side is printed, there is a pause for the ink to dry and the printer retrieves the paper and prints on the second side, without my having to, by hand, put the paper back into the feeder tray to print the second side. This is the procedure I am looking for while scanning two sided documents.
At this point, I do not think the HP Photosmart 7525 and automatically scan a two sided document.
Thank you for trying to help.

Hi @CHAMPIONCOS
Thanks for the reply.
This printer does not have the ability to auto duplex while scanning. This is why I have been instructing you to scan two-sided documents from the HP Software.
NOTE: To duplex scan with this printer you need to initiate the scan from the software. It will require you to flip the pages to resume the scan.
I hope this helps clear up any confusion. Thanks for reaching out to the HP Support Forums! 🙂
