From time to time, I get a 'Corrupt File" error when printing a PDF from an Android Smartphone. When I reset the printer, the problem dissapears and the same PDF from the same smarthone prints fine. I checked the firmware and I am on the latest 2022-04-14 firmware.

The smartphone is an Samsung S23 with the latest firmware and HP Smart version 17.0.0.44.92.

Any idea how I can fix this?

Thank you

Hi @DimitriM,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like there may be an intermittent communication issue between your Android smartphone and the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw printer when printing PDF files. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially fix the problem,

  • Update HP Smart App: Make sure the HP Smart app on your Samsung S23 smartphone is up to date. Sometimes, app updates include bug fixes and improvements that can resolve compatibility issues.
  • Clear App Cache/Data: Try clearing the cache and data for the HP Smart app on your smartphone. This can sometimes resolve app-related issues.
  • Restart Smartphone: Sometimes, simply restarting your smartphone can help resolve temporary glitches that may be causing the issue.
  • Check PDF File: Verify that the PDF file you are trying to print is not corrupted or damaged. Try opening and printing other PDF files to see if the issue persists.
  • Print from Different App: If possible, try printing the PDF file from a different app on your smartphone. This can help determine if the issue is specific to the HP Smart app or if it's a more general printing issue.
  • Check Printer Connection: Ensure that the printer is properly connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your smartphone and that both devices have a stable internet connection.
  • Reinstall HP Smart App: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, try uninstalling and reinstalling the HP Smart app on your smartphone. This can sometimes fix underlying software issues.

By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the 'Corrupt File' error when printing PDFs from your Android smartphone to the HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M477fdw printer.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for feedback @Alden4.

I already verified all of this. I still have the impression that this is somehow due to the printer firmware.

1. I am using the latest Smart App version. I get the same problem BTW with different smartphones.

2.  The PDF file is ok. You can read it and BTW the same PDF file send from the same smartphone prints correctly when I reboot the printer.

Any other suggestions?

Thank you

Hi @DimitriM,

Thank you for your response,

It sounds frustrating to encounter this issue, especially when you've already checked various aspects like the app version and the PDF file itself. If you suspect the printer firmware might be the culprit, there are a few steps you can take.

  • Firmware Update: Ensure that your printer has the latest firmware installed. Sometimes, HP releases updates to address compatibility issues and bugs like the one you're experiencing.
  • Reset Printer: Try performing a factory reset on the printer. This can sometimes resolve software glitches that may be causing the "Corrupt File" error.
  • Check PDF Settings: While you've mentioned that the PDF file seems fine, it's worth checking if there are any specific settings within the PDF that might be causing compatibility issues with your printer. For example, certain fonts or graphics settings might trigger errors.
  • Print from Different Source: If possible, try printing the same PDF file from a different source, such as a computer or a different smartphone, to see if the issue persists across different devices.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

@Alden4,

I believe that the printer (and firmware) are the problem because when I reboot the printer, the printjob prints fine.

So the client device and the print content remain exactly the same. Just rebooting the printer temporarly fixes the issue.
Update with re: the file --- I encountered the same corrupt error also with an HTML page so it doesn't seem to be related to only a PDF formatted file.

Printing from other sources / devices gives me the same error (until I reboot the printer).
