The problem with HP technical support is that they're only open during the day on weekdays - which is when I'm on client sites - i.e. exactly the time I cant call. Is there any way to contact them by email or at weekends?

When you open the case for Support, you can describe your issue, including that of  "best" contact days / times.   You also have a choice of contact methods (as far as I recall).

In so much that I am aware, HP Tech. Support is available 24/7 -- at least here in the USA.

There is no casual or direct email contact with HP Technical Support -- it is best that you initiate the request for support through the available means.   Iterate in your original request that you require contact (call back) during certain days / hours.

Dragon-Fur

Hey Dragon (and anyone else who might know) ...  I put bios 1.14 in (along with all the other updates) and I'm still having some machines that refuse to work with the dock at all.

A problem I'm running into now, is that I'de like to downgrade the bios and I seem to be unable to.

Bios says 'Bios update denied by system policy. Cancelling the system BIOS update' no matter what I try...

How can I downgrade the bios?

Says 'unrestricted downgrade' in there... and also tried 'restricted downgrade w/version set to 00.00'

If, not matter what you try with the software, you cannot get the unit to see the dock.

Tell your support rep you would like to try a replacement cable.

May be time to start looking at hardware.

Try Uninstalling "ASMedia USB Host Controller Driver"

Just as an FYI

I tried most of the suggestions about uninstalling and updating drivers, but nothing helped.

In the end I had to do full format and rebuild of the machine...which has worked.

IMHO, That is about as good as you can ever expect it to work.

The USB3 HP docks just have problems. I have continually updated my drivers, etc. and this is what I find:

Takes two or three trys of unplugging and plugging back in to get everything working.

Ethernet monitors and keyboards all seem to fail on various attempts.

About every third attempt puts causes the computer to lock the screen requiring password.

About every 8th attempt causes BSOD or causes the computer to shut down.

Here is something that may help:
Things work better if I wake the laptop before plugging the dock in, and always unplug the dock while computer is still awake.

BSOD is more likely if laptop battery is low, so try to keep it topped off before docking.

Hope this helps.
